In a display of unity and foresight, Interfaith Housing, the South Central Kansas Economic Development District (SCKEDD), and the Hutchinson Housing Commission have joined forces to leverage American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) dollars from both the City of Hutchinson and Reno County for the betterment of housing conditions in Reno County. This initiative marks a significant step towards addressing housing challenges in the region and improving the overall quality of life for its residents.
Reno County, like many communities across the nation, has been grappling with housing challenges, ranging from a shortage of affordable homes to issues of quality and safety in existing housing stock. These problems have only intensified with the economic uncertainties brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. In response, the infusion of ARPA funds into Reno County is enabling the expansion of a wide range of housing improvements, including:
Affordable Housing Initiatives: New affordable housing developments are in the planning stages, aimed at providing safe and affordable homes for individuals and families struggling to find suitable housing.
Home Rehabilitation: Existing homes in need of repair and rehabilitation are being revitalized, improving the living conditions and safety of residents.
Energy Efficiency Upgrades: Emphasis is placed on making homes more energy-efficient, reducing utility costs for low-income households and contributing to a more sustainable community.
The collaborative efforts of Interfaith Housing, SCKEDD, and the Hutchinson Housing Commission have already begun to yield positive results. The infusion of ARPA funds into Reno County has not only improved housing conditions but also strengthened the sense of unity and purpose within the community.
